Common questions
How much does a session cost?
Each practitioner sets their own rate. Individual sessions start at $150. Couples and family sessions start at $150. Sessions with our supervised interns start at $75.
Do you have a sliding scale?
Yes. If the standard rate is out of reach, tell your therapist at the free consultation, or contact us. We will work out a rate with you. You do not need to show proof of income.
What is the free consultation?
It is a short conversation with the therapist you are thinking about, 15 or 30 minutes. It can be by phone or video. Ask what you want to know and see if the fit feels right. There is no commitment.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly. You do not need a referral or a diagnosis.
Are sessions in person or online?
Both. We have offices in Surrey, Vancouver, Red Deer, Toronto, Vaughan, Kitchener, Ajax and Simcoe. Most of our team also offers secure video sessions. Each profile says where that person sees clients.
What is an intern session?
Our interns are in the last stage of a master’s program in counselling or psychotherapy. They are completing their supervised practice hours. A senior clinician supervises their work closely. Their sessions cost less.
Will my insurance pay for sessions?
Many extended health plans cover registered clinical counsellors, registered psychotherapists, registered social workers and psychologists. Plans differ, so check which credentials your plan covers. Each profile lists the practitioner’s credentials. We give you a receipt after each session to send to your insurer.
How do I change or cancel an appointment?
Your confirmation email has a link to change or cancel your appointment. Please give as much notice as you can. Your therapist will explain their cancellation policy at the start.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. What you tell your therapist stays private, with a few legal limits, for example if someone is at serious risk of harm. Your therapist will explain these limits in your first session. The limits depend on the province where you live.
Is this a crisis service?
No. We see people by appointment and we do not monitor messages outside office hours. If you are in danger now, call 911. For crisis support at any hour, call or text 988.
