Quote: “Part of getting to know yourself is to unknow yourself—to let go of the limiting stories you’ve told yourself about who you are so that you aren’t trapped by them…”
— Lori Gottlieb
My name is Liza. I am currently a master’s-level MA in Counselling Psychology practicum student, qualified to practice under the clinical supervision of an approved supervisor.
We often move through life repeating familiar habits, reactions, and relationship dynamics without fully understanding why. Sometimes these patterns helped us protect ourselves in the past, but over time they become narrow scripts that leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or drained. Therapy is a collaborative space to pause, untangle what no longer serves you, and reconnect with who you genuinely are.
My approach is grounded in empathy, compassionate warmth, curiosity, and honest directness. I see myself as a “fellow traveller”, walking alongside you in this process. I will sit with you, without judgement, through what feels difficult, confusing, or uncertain, while also offering gentle challenges to help you look at situations from a fresh perspective. Because I have lived and worked across different countries and cultures, I bring a culturally humble lens to our work and a personal understanding of navigating transitions and uncertainty—honouring the unique context, background, and values you bring into the room.
Self-awareness is an important step, but insight alone does not create change. Together, we connect self-understanding to emotional awareness, translating it into everyday courage, self-trust, and clear choices. Whether you want to explore the roots of your emotional and behavioral habits or focus on practical tools to navigate a major transition, we tailor our pace to what matters most to you.
How I Work
My developing approach is integrative and evidence-informed, with a particular interest in psychodynamic and relational perspectives. Depending on your needs, I may also draw from attachment, family systems, cognitive-behavioural, emotion-focused, narrative, and solution-focused approaches. That means we look at:
· The Root: How your past experiences and early relationships with parents may have shaped the way you think, feel, and connect with others today.
· The Present: How you navigate boundaries, communication, and family or relational dynamics today — including the strengths and resources you already have to work toward meaningful change.
· The Action: Practical strategies, tools for emotional regulation and tolerating anxiety, and forward-looking solutions to help you make intentional choices.
